Cardinal O’Hara Driver Education Course

Open to all area high school students

The Cardinal O'Hara Driver Education Program is open to students from all local high schools several times throughout the year.

The New York State Department of Education requires that each student in the Driver Education Course attends 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of in-car driving instruction. Each student must successfully complete the written and driving skills tests.

Students must have a valid New York State Permit or License prior to the start of the first class.

Benefits of Driver Education

Students who complete all 24 hours of classroom requirements, all 24 hours of in-car requirements and pass both in-car and classroom instruction, with a grade of 65 or above, will receive a NYS Department of Motor Vehicles form MV-285 and insurance certificate which allows:

  • Senior driving privileges (driving past 9 pm) at 17 years of age

  • Possible reduction of auto insurance premiums
